February 2021 Book List

Thrive
by Arianna Huffington

In her rousing book Thrive, Arianna Huffington challenges us to redefine what success means. Rather than climb the proverbial ladder to change the world, she encourages us to take better care of ourselves and our health so that we can lead more centered, fulfilling lives. It was Huffington’s personal wake up call in the form of a health scare that prompted her to question the very life she was living. She discovered that she no longer wanted to continue living a life fueled by overwork and stress. Huffington includes a third metric to success beyond money and power which includes 4 pillars: well-being, wisdom, wonder and giving. She inspires us to connect with ourselves and one another rather than over-connecting on social media, overworking and over stressing. This book will have you rethinking the kind of life you want to live and give you the tools to tap into your inner wisdom so you can truly thrive.

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown

In her riveting and heartcentered book, shame researcher Brené Brown shows us how to access the deeper parts of ourselves and get enthralled in what truly matters in life -- love and belonging, authenticity, self-compassion, joy and gratitude, intuition and faith, creativity, rest and play, and stillness. Brené inspires us to expose our true selves and provides us with wisdom, tools and action items to dig deep. When we’re willing to be imperfect, vulnerable, raw and real, and embrace who we truly are, we live a more abundant life. She encourages us to practice using courage, compassion and connection in our everyday lives because “meaningful change is a process”.

Shakti Mantras by Thomas Ashley-Farrand

Shakti Mantras is a spiritual text on tapping into the all-knowing feminine power within. Ashley-Farrand reminds us that the goddess inherently exists in all of us, and so we can access her energy and power through chanted prayers, also known as shakti mantras, to enhance our spiritual gifts, manifest wealth and abundance, and bring the highest expression of love into our lives. While this book takes some patience to read as it’s filled with Hindu myths that can get a bit confusing with the many gods and goddesses, the many mantras Ashley-Farrand provides us with can easily be accessed and incorporated in our spiritual practice.
